Beverly at Hamilton Postponed

Tonight's game in Hamilton has been rained out.

Chiefs take two from the Townies.

The Ipswich Chiefs were able to squeak out a couple wins against Rockport this week in two hard fought games.  Sunday night's game was a back and forth effort throughout the first 5 innings and continued when Rockport took the lead by one in the bottom of the sixth.  Greg Doucette then hit a 2 run homer to deep center field for Ipswich in the seventh to reclaim the lead.  It was the third hit of the night for Greg, and along with two more hits from his brother Jeff, it was a solid night for the Doucette family.  Rockport threatened again in the final frame, but Kevin Michael closed the door stranding a runner at third and preserving the win for the Chiefs.
Monday nights game was more of the same back and forth scoring, with the added bonus of two rain delays and pretty sloppy conditions.  Ipswich had the lead through most of the game until Rockport mounted a comeback in the 5th and tied the game.  Then, after a one out double by Matt Small in the sixth, Greg Doucette was the hero again with a RBI double to left field to drive in the winning run.  The game was called due to darkness after six complete innings.

The next batter grounded into a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning.

In Rockport's half of the 8th they threatened but could not score. Tupper led off with a single and stole 2nd. After a strikeout, Brian Lentz singled to center but a strong throw from John Boyle held the runner at third. Lentz stole second moving the winning run into scoring position. Drown then got a strikeout and pop out to end the game.

Beverly only had 4 hits but totaled 9 walks on the night. Rockport's Lentz was the game's only multiple hitter going 2 for 2 with a walk, a hit by pitch, and a steal. McDowell pitched 7 shutout innings, striking out 8. Nelson was charged with the loss in relief.
