Rowley Rams Clinches Lead in Sixth Inning for Victory Over Hamilton Generals

Rowley Rams ran off with the lead late in the game in a 2-1 victory over Hamilton Generals on Wednesday. The game was tied at one with Rowley Rams batting in the bottom of the sixth when Sal Guarino's wild pitch allowed one run to score for Rowley Rams. 

The pitching was strong on both sides. Dylan Copeland struck out two, while Guarino sat down two.
Copeland was the winning pitcher for Rowley Rams. The hurler allowed five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out two and walking one. 

Guarino took the loss for Hamilton Generals. Guarino allowed two hits and two runs over six innings, striking out two and walking one.  Justin Bolla and Jake Sickel each collected one hit to lead Rowley Rams.

Mariners 7 Giants 4

• Man./Essex Mariners Clinches Lead In Sixth Inning To Defeat Beverly Giants

  Man./Essex Mariners nabbed the lead late in the game in a 7-4 victory over Beverly Giants on Wednesday. The game was tied at four with Man./Essex Mariners batting in the bottom of the sixth when an error scored one run for Man./Essex Mariners.

  Beverly Giants scored three runs in the third inning, but Man./Essex Mariners still managed to pull out the victory. The offensive onslaught by Beverly Giants was led by Luke McDonald and Andrew "Woody" Terista, who all drove in runs.

  Man./Essex Mariners evened things up at four in the bottom of the fourth inning. EJ Fieldsingled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

  Man./Essex Mariners notched four runs in the fourth inning. Man./Essex Mariners put the pressure on, lead by a single by Field and a double by Marcus Montignino.

  Alexander Sosa was the winning pitcher for Man./Essex Mariners. The hurler lasted three and a third innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out one and walking one.

  Sean Martin took the loss for Beverly Giants. The righty went one inning, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one.

  Ryan Marques started the game for Man./Essex Mariners. He allowed five hits and Three Earned runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking one Josh Levesque started the game for Beverly Giants. The pitcher lasted five innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out five

  Man./Essex Mariners racked up ten hits. Montignino and Lars Arsten all collected multiple hits for Man./Essex Mariners. Montignino went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Man./Essex Mariners in hits.

  Beverly Giants racked up six hits in the game. Loany Rosario and Terista each managed multiple hits for Beverly Giants.

  
  

Mariners 5 Townies 4

 The Mariners & Townies engaged in a back and forth affair last night in Gloucester. The Townies opened up with 2 runs in the top of the first, the Mariners plated 3 in the bottom half. Heading into the 7th the Mariners had a 4 to 2 lead. With two outs a throwing error allowed 2 runs to score to tie the game. In the bottom half Bennett O'Leary knocked in Rusty Tucker with a line drive to right to win the game.

Beverly Giants Can't Catch Up To Rowley Rams

Beverly Giants watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 13-1 loss to Rowley Rams on Sunday. Rowley Rams scored on a home run by Justin Bolla in the first inning, a single by Curtis Putnam in the first inning, a sacrifice fly by Bolla in the second inning, and a sacrifice fly by Tim Cashman in the second inning. 

The Beverly Giants struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Rowley Rams, giving up 13 runs. 

In the first inning, Rowley Rams got their offense started. Bolla homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
Rowley Rams scored three runs in the seventh inning. Rowley Rams scored its runs on a triple by Dimitri Hunt. 

Andy Brown was on the pitcher's mound for Beverly Giants. Brown allowed three hits and three runs over one inning, striking out one. 

Luke McDonald, Brad Petipas, and Loany Rosario each managed one hit to lead Beverly Giants.
Rowley Rams tallied 11 hits in the game. Bolla, Hunt, C Ingraham, and Joe White all collected multiple hits for Rowley Rams. Bolla led Rowley Rams with three hits in five at bats.

Ipswich Chiefs Clinches Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Topsfield Tories

Ipswich Chiefs snatched the lead late in the game in a 7-5 victory over Topsfield Tories on Monday. 

Ipswich Chiefs was down 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jake Greaney singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. 

Ipswich Chiefs earned the victory despite allowing Topsfield Tories to score three runs in the first inning. Topsfield Tories's big inning was driven by doubles by Zack Lamkin and Andrew Heath and a single by Matt Lessard. 

Topsfield Tories got things started in the first inning when Lamkin doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.  Brendan Duffy got the win for Ipswich Chiefs. The fireballer lasted seven innings, allowing 11 hits and five runs while striking out 13 and walking one.  Alex Zenus took the loss for Topsfield Tories. The hurler went five and a third innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and striking out six. 

Ipswich Chiefs collected nine hits. Greaney, Josh O’brien, and Parker Jennings all had multiple hits for Ipswich Chiefs. Jennings, O’brien, and Greaney all had two hits to lead Ipswich Chiefs. Ipswich Chiefs didn't commit a single error in the field. O’brien had 13 chances in the field, the most on the team. Topsfield Tories saw the ball well today, racking up 11 hits in the game. Heath, Lessard, and Zenus all collected multiple hits for Topsfield Tories. Heath led Topsfield Tories with three hits in four at bats.  Topsfield Tories was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Lamkin had the most chances in the field with six.

 Kenzie Quinn with the CG shut-out in a 3-0 win over the M-E Mariners at Evans Field.

Generals 2, Townies 0

 The Hamilton Generals picked up a shut-out win in their 2021 home opener at Patton Park over the Rockport Townies - 2-0.

Beverly Giants Defeated By Hamilton Generals

One bright spot for Beverly Giants was a single by Brady McGrath in the third inning. 

Sal Guarino took the win for Hamilton Generals. The ace surrendered zero runs on two hits over five innings, striking out three and walking zero. Jake Lanciani threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Josh Levesque took the loss for Beverly Giants. The righthander went four innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out two. 

McGrath, Luke McDonald, and Andrew "Woody" Terista each collected one hit to lead Beverly Giants.
Hamilton Generals racked up five hits in the game. Harrison O'Brien and Hunter Willochoski all collected multiple hits for Hamilton Generals. O'Brien led Hamilton Generals with three hits in four at bats.

Mariners 3 Chiefs 0

 Rusty Tucker (5in.) and Dylan Wilson (2in.) combined to strikeout 19 Ipswich batters to lead the Mariners. All three mariner runs were scored in the 3rd on a few errors and a 2 out RBI double by Tucker. Jake Greeney pitched well for the Chiefs.

Rowley-11, Topsfield-0

Dylan Copeland and Kyle Greenler combined for a no hitter. Colby Ingraham had 5 hits for Rowley. The 2 teams meet again Friday in Topsfield.

November 24, 1982 - December 29, 2020

Topsfield - Sometimes lights are so bright that they are only meant to shine for a short time. And when they are out of sight, their warmth will still be felt forever.
This is the story of Ben Hathaway.

Ben passed on December 29, 2020. Funny and kind-hearted...one of a kind.
He has left a legacy of love to his family and friends. He leaves his two shining stars, Benny and Natalee, they will carry this legacy with them. The best son his parents could ever wish for and the depths of their loss cannot be measured.

The list of those who loved him and those that he loved could go on and on. But especially the following, remain here for now...to miss him every day.

His children - Benny and Natalee and their mother Amanda. His mommy Holly, his Dad - Del and his wife, Joanne, his fiance - Ashley, his auntie Robin and uncle Wayne and his cousin, Eric. Also leaving his stepdad - Dick, his step siblings - Sara, Allison, Mikey, Jannice and TJ. He leaves his best friend - Mike, also, Brookie, Max, T, Dave and Greeny. His future in-laws, Jim, Maryann, Cheryl, David and James. His uncles and cousins, Dave Sr., Bruce, Heidi, Heather, Sam, Del, Dave, Dany
He goes to sit beside his grandparents, Lala and Papa and our sweet Kimmy will welcome him to wherever it is we go.

"... just before the New Year, former Topsfield Tories player/manager Ben Hathaway passed away. Benny was a great teammate and definitely one of the great reasons to play for the Tories. We had some terrible years record wise, but I don't know of anyone that had more fun when times were tough than Benny. He made coming to games fun. He loved the game and loved playing in the ITL. Even after he stopped playing, opposing teams would ask about Benny and say how hilarious he was. RIP to one of the best people to wear a Tories uniform."

Richard M. Travers

Richard “Dick” M. Travers

Richard “Dick” M. Travers of Billerica, passed away peacefully on Dec. 17th after a brief illness at age 76. Beloved husband of Linda M. Travers. Devoted father of daughters Julie Pollock and husband Aaron of Bradford, MA, and Lori Travers of Milford, MA. Adored Grampy to Alanna, Caelum, Marlee, Brielle, Cian, and Jack. Loving son of the late Gilbert and Elizabeth Travers. Dear brother to Robert Travers of Andover, MA, Steve Travers of Merrimack, NH, and the late Donald Travers of Fort Myers, FL. Treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Originally from Rockport, he was a 1962 graduate of Rockport High. He played centerfield for the high school baseball team. His love of baseball started at an early age with Little League and sandlot games filling his summer; always eager to chase balls from anyone willing to hit them to him at Evans Field. After high school, he wanted to keep playing ball, so he and his good friend teamed up to bring back the Rockport town team, and they worked together to gain them entry into the Intertown Twilight League (the oldest active amateur baseball league in the nation). He was recognized for this effort and inducted into the ITL Hall of Fame. Richard never outgrew his love of baseball; fielding for the Rockport Townies for 14 seasons, participating in Red Sox fantasy baseball camp at the age of 50, making it into the playoffs in an Over 30 league at the age of 61, and still running the bases and throwing the ball at a local ball field until recently.

Richard was a good-natured man of service, integrity, and humor. He enjoyed situation comedy and clever word play (he was a master of one-liners and puns, and known for his sharp wit). He served 6 years in the National Guard, was a deacon in his local congregation, and gave generously of himself to his family. His grandchildren loved their fun Grampy, and he enjoyed making them laugh. They knew when they had Grampy in their corner, their odds for ice cream were high. From there always being a quart of Brigham’s vanilla ice cream in the freezer, to knowing all the best local ice cream stands from Kimball Farm to Cherry Hill Farm, he loved all things ice cream.

An avid sports enthusiast, music lover, and television and movie trivia expert - Richard was Google to friends and family before Google. He had an unbelievable memory and could easily remember obscure names, dates, and statistics. He loved old black and white shows and westerns, two favorites being Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show. After many years of grabbing up same-day tickets, Richard became a season ticket holder to the Boston Celtics for 8 seasons, witnessing the 68 and 69 Championships. He enjoyed composing original music and recording covers of favorite songs in his home studio.

He began his working career at the United Shoe Company in Beverly as a messenger, and worked his way up the ranks to bookkeeping and accounting. Richard was a Senior Accountant and dedicated employee for 32 years at John A Penney Company of Cambridge.

He met his loving wife and best friend of 45 years, Linda, at work during his years as Accounting Manager at Limbach Company in Woburn. Their marriage was a true example of unconditional love, and they were each other’s perfect complement. They began their married life together in Woburn, later moving to Arlington, MA to raise their two daughters, and finally settling in Billerica in 2000 after finding their perfect home. Though he had many passions and interests, his family was always his top priority.

While there will be no formal service at this time, friends and family are strongly encouraged to share stories and photos from Richard’s life to bring comfort to the family at RememberingRichardTravers@gmail.com.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as an honorable man by those blessed to have known him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Remembering Richard Travers Fund at PO Box 5376, Haverhill, MA 01835, or through PayPal at paypal.me/rememberingrichard This fund will be used to create a lasting tribute in Richard’s name at the Kaplan Family Hospice House of Danvers, MA. They provided compassionate care and support during a difficult time. It is our intention to support their mission by dedicating a brick in Richard’s name for their Garden of Remembrance.
