Beverly bounced back from a 9-8 home opening loss Sunday night and won the re-match at Ipswich just a day later. Beverly scored 4 in the first and never looked back.  Three different Beverly pitchers combined to get the win, 9-1.

The Ipswich Chiefs held on to pick up the win Sunday at Cooney - 9-8.  The Giants would strand the equalizing run at 2nd base in the bottom of the 7th.  A tough battle that came up just short.

The Beverly Giants topped the Rowley Rams 4-2 in 8 innings.  Giants pick up the win on the road after their opening day double header against the Rams was postponed.

 Troy Flood’s Clutch Hitting Propels Manchester / Essex Mariners To Victory Over Ipswich Chiefs

Troy Flood drove in four runs on two hits to lead Manchester / Essex Mariners past Ipswich Chiefs 17-7 on Tuesday at Memorial Park. Flood hit a home run to center field in the fourth inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the third inning, scoring one.

Ipswich Chiefs got on the board in the top of the first inning after Manchester / Essex Mariners committed an error, and Willie Bailey grounded out, each scoring one run.

Manchester / Essex Mariners tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Caulin Rogers, and a play.

Ipswich Chiefs took the lead in the top of the second. Krouse singled, scoring one run, to give Ipswich Chiefs the lead, 3-2.

Manchester / Essex Mariners flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Luke Leavitt that drove in three.

Manchester / Essex Mariners scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Flood homered to center field, scoring three runs, Thomas Connors singled, scoring one run, Rogers singled, scoring one run, and EJ Field hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Flood earned the win for Manchester / Essex Mariners. The right-handed pitcher gave up two hits and three runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking six. Collins took the loss for Ipswich Chiefs. The hurler went four innings, surrendering 13 runs (seven earned) on 11 hits, striking out two and walking four. Cory McCollum appeared in relief for Manchester / Essex Mariners.

Manchester / Essex Mariners tallied 13 hits in the game. Connors, Manchester / Essex Mariners's number nine hitter, led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Leavitt and Rogers each collected multiple hits for Manchester / Essex Mariners. Manchester / Essex Mariners had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Leavitt and James Mckenna led the team with two walks each. Leavitt and Mckenna each stole multiple bases for Manchester / Essex Mariners. Manchester / Essex Mariners stole seven bases in the game. Manchester / Essex Mariners turned one double play in the game.

Sexton led Ipswich Chiefs with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Drew Lane, Finn MacLennan, Krouse, and Sexton each collected one hit for Ipswich Chiefs. Ipswich Chiefs had patience at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Peter Lowry, Bailey, Andrew Heath, and Krouse led the team with two bases on balls each.

Mariners 10 Chiefs 0

 Brett Moore pitched 5 shut out innings allowing just 1 hit to lead the Mariners over the chiefs 10 to 0.

Rookie Troy Flood had 4 hits while James McKenna, EJ Field and Tom Conners all had 2 each.

Opening Day!

 The 96th Season of the ITL kicked off yesterday with the defending champion Hamilton Generals picking up a win (5-0) at a tough venue.  The Rockport Townies always make the visitors work at Evans Field, the fans and the backdrop add to that challenge.  Across Cape Ann the Rowley Rams saw their opening day double header against the Beverly Giants postponed due to unsafe field conditions - the rain had left its mark at Cooney.  The games will be rescheduled.  As is tradition, the Ipswich Chiefs will open their season on Memorial Day at Bialek Park in Ipswich against the Manchester/Essex Mariners.  The young Chiefs are looking to build up their program with another year under their belt while facing off against last season's runner-up - a tough task ahead.

Generals Win 2024 ITL Championship

Mariners swept by Hamilton as stellar season comes to close

After stunning the Rockport Townies in the semifinals last week, Manchester Essex jolted into the ITL championship series against top-seeded Hamilton with confidence. But after dropping two competitive games to open the decisive series, the Mariners faced a win-or-go-home situation on Wednesday night and were unable to keep their season alive.

The result was a 13-6 setback on the road at Patton Park, with Hamilton securing the finals sweep and a third straight ITL crown to boot. The Generals finished the year at 24-4-1 and now have a pretty good claim to being the best team in the 95-year history of Hamilton’s ITL outfit.

“To not drop a playoff game, and outscore our playoff opponents 48-20 ... that says a lot,” said Generals player/manager Brian Nicoll. “We had a great group of guys, a nice mix of guys with experience and some newcomers. It’s been a pretty incredible run these last few years.”

Looking to force a Game 4 this weekend, Manchester grabbed a 1-0 lead on Wednesday but Hamilton answered back by going ahead 4-1 after one. The Generals then exploded for six runs in the fourth, led 12-2 after five and held off a late Mariners rally to sweep for the first time in their current three-peat.

Will Frain tripled, drove in a run and scored while Nick Freni was 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Ryan Monahan added two hits, Connor McClintock doubled and collected three RBI, Carter Coffey scored a pair and Hunter Wilichoski and Luke McClintock collected RBI.

Adam Green threw the first five innings and fanned four to earn the championship clinching win. Coffey and Wilichoski closed it out.

For Manchester, both EJ Field and Cory Burnham mashed doubles, while Tom Connors connected for a big triple. Both Jack Shaw and Cory McCollum were steady on the mound, but the Mariners shot themselves in the foot with a number of costly fielding errors which allowed the majority of the Generals’ runs to score.

If there were an ITL MVP this summer, Luke McClintock (a rising senior at Babson) would be near the top of the list of candidates. Besides going 4-1 with a 1.19 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 41 innings, he batted .362 with 20 RBI. Green was the other horse of Hamilton’s pitching staff, throwing 53 2/3 innings and 53 punchouts and a 2.21 ERA. Coffey, Ryan Hutchinson, Aidan Clarke, Nicoll and Wilichoski all gave the Generals valuable innings over the course of the summer.

Offensively, Nick Freni led the way in run production by hitting .395 with five homers and 22 RBI. Hutchinson contributed a .464 average with 15 RBI while Connor McClintock drove home 15, Wilichoski had 13 RBI and Frain and Tobin Clark-Goldfeld each knocked in a dozen. Aidan Cann also hit .424 with 13 RBI and Will Cooke had a solid summer at .444; the Generals had six regulars bat over .400 and ten players both play at least 10 games and hit over .300.

Hamilton is now the first ITL team to win three straight championships since Manchester claimed five in a row from 2012-16. The Intertown Twilight League goes all the way back to 1929 and has been recognized by the National Baseball Hall of Fame as the longest running active amateur baseball league in America.

 Hamilton wins Game 3 13 to 6 and secures the 2024 ITL championship.
