Judd Funchion pitched 6 innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 runs to earn a game 1 victory in Ipswich Sunday night. The Generals were able to get out to a quick lead, scoring 7 runs total in the first two innings off Ipswich starter Brad Eaton. The loss was Eaton's first of the season.
In the first inning Andre Painchaud delivered a 2-RBI single, and later scored on a wild pitch. In the second, Mark Provost got a 2-RBI single and Tom Jones added an RBI single of his own. The score remained 7-0 until the fourth inning thanks to some timely Generals defense. In the second, Mark Potter turned a nifty double play. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third and two out, The Chiefs got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, scoring one run on a Lane RBI single that plated Jim Bodwell. In the fifth, Ryan Montecalvo delivered a two out bases loaded double scoring two. After five complete innings the Generals led 7-3.
