Chiefs 7, Rams 2

In the final regular season game of the 2011 season the Chiefs pulled out the victory behind a strong outing on the mound from Will Corkum who got the start and the win. The Chiefs took advantage of some sloppy Rowley defense in their 5 run fourth inning and tacked on 2 more in the 6th. For Rowley, Anthony Conte got the start and pitched 3 hitless innings before reluctantly giving up the ball to the bullpen. Joe Martin took the loss in relief and Dave Leavitt finished the final 2 innings. The win completes an impressive first season for the Chiefs under Gardy O'Flynn. The Rams will open up the playoff schedule Sunday at Eiras against Manchester/Essex in a 5:30PM start.

Game 1 will be this Sunday (8/7) with a 5:30pm start time at Erias Field in Rowley. Game 2 in Essex is Monday (8/8) 5:30pm start.


(3) Hamilton Generals Vs. (2) Rockport Townies -

Game 1 will be Monday (8/8) with a 6pm start time in Rockport. Game 2 in Hamilton on Tuesday (8/9) will start at 5:30pm.

Generals 6 Chiefs 4

Hamilton defeated Ipswich by a score of 6-4 Thursday night at Patton Park. Luke Painchaud went six innings for the win yielding two runs. Jim Love had a strong game for Hamilton with two hits and scored two runs. In his first start and plate appearances of the season, rightfielder Michael Drinkwater contributed a beast of a double. Ryan Montecalvo hit two doubles for the Chiefs.

With the win Hamilton secures the third seed in the playoffs and will open up a series on the road in Rockport on Monday evening. Ipswich finishes their season Friday night in Rowley against the Rams.

Beverly - 10, Topsfield - 2

Beverly finishes their season with a win in 6 innings at Topsfield. Josh Levesque allowed only 2 runs over 4 innings for the victory and also added a homerun at the plate. Sean Martin hit two doubles. More details to follow...

Mariners Over Chiefs

Mariners picked up a big win last night over the Chiefs. The win clinches a playoff berth for the Mariners, the loss knocks out Ipswich after a stellar second half run. The playoff teams are now set, but the seeding is up in the air. A Hamilton win on Thursday night will move them into third place. A loss puts the Generals in the 4 spot and the Mariners clinch 3rd. Rowley and Rockport have secured the 1 & 2 seeds.

Rockport at Topsfield MAKEUP TOMORROW

Rockport Townies will visit Proctor Field tomorrow night to play the Topsfield Tories. First pitch at 5:45.

Generals over Giants 6-3

Hamilton (12-10-1) clinched a playoff birth by downing Beverly (7-15-1) Tuesday night at Patton Park. Connor Sullivan picked up the win by tossing three innings of relief allowing only one hit and striking out four. Reginald J. Maidment (2-for-2, HBP, 2B, 3RBI) remained warm at the plate as he paced the Generals' offense, the biggest hit being a two-run double in the fifth to break the game open. Avon Stewart added a pinch-hit solo HR in the sixth for the Generals.

The Generals host Ipswich on Thursday in a game which may have seeding implications for Hamilton, while a playoff birth may be at stake for the Chiefs. Beverly closes out their season on Wednesday in Topsfield.

Bertolino Takes 2nd HR Derby Title

Nate Bertolino of the Manchester/Essex Mariners outlasted the field to take his second ITL HR Derby Championship. Bertolino becomes the first two-time winner in the competition's history. Bertolino hit 4 HR's in the final round to beat out Hamilton's Avon Stewart.

Mariners Defeat Ipswich

M/E Mariners beat the Ipswich Chiefs 7-6 last night.

Rams - 3, Generals - 0

Rowley picked up the win tonight at Eiras Field behind Mike Sloban(6INN, 3H, 1BB, 5K's) on the mound. Joe Martin pitched a perfect 7th for the save. Ralph Renzulli led the way offensively with 2 hits while Thibault, Mcelroy and Barba all had RBI's. Keller started and pitched well for Hamilton and Sullivan was equally good in relief. Greeke, Maloney and Keller had hits for the Generals. Rowley will wait until Friday to close out its regular season against Ipswich at Eiras while Hamilton gets back at it tomorrow in Hamilton against Beverly.

Topsfield-Rockport Moved

Sunday's Topsfield-Rockport makeup is TBD. Early reports suggest it will be Thursday, August 4th.

Ipswich - 8, Beverly - 7

Ipswich took an 8 to 2 lead in the fifth inning. Beverly scored 2 in the bottom of the fifth and then 3 in the bottom of the seventh but left the bases loaded to end the game.

Trailing 8 to 4, Paul Drinkwater led off the bottom of the 7th with a homerun. Frankie Messina walked followed by a homerun by Josh Levesque in his first official ITL at bat cutting the lead to 1. Ipswich brought on Kevin Michael for the save. Brian Chirco singled, Jeff Barricelli reached on an error, and Sean Martin bunted both over to put the tying run on third and winning run on second. After an intentional walk, Michael struck out the final two batters for the save and the Ipswich win.

Drinkwater had a monster game for Beverly going 3 for 3 with 3HR and 4RBI. Chirco was 2 for 3.

For Ipswich, Jim Cadogan was 1 for 3 with a 3 run homer. Greg Doucette was 2 for 3 with a HR. Matt Small and Ryan Montecalvo each had 2 hits and an RBI.
