Ipswich Chiefs Defeats Rockport Townies in Pitcher's Duel

Both teams were strong on the mound Monday, but Ipswich Chiefs defeated Rockport Townies 3-2. Jake Greaney allowed just five hits to Rockport Townies.  In the first inning, Rockport Townies got their offense started. Alex Webb grounded out, scoring one run. 


Rockport Townies evened things up at two in the top of the fifth inning. Jack Sperry drove in one when Sperry doubled.  Ipswich Chiefs pulled away for good with zero runs in the fifth inning.  Greaney led the Ipswich Chiefs to victory on the hill. Greaney lasted nine innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out six. 


Derick MacDowell took the loss for Rockport Townies. MacDowell lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out three.  Sperry started the game for Rockport Townies. The lefthander lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out six.
 

Ipswich Chiefs totaled nine hits in the game. Eric Gongas and John O’Brien each had multiple hits for Ipswich Chiefs. Gongas went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Ipswich Chiefs in hits.  Rockport Townies didn't commit a single error in the field. Keady Segel had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team.
