Evans Field -  Rockport Townies
Station Square - Rockport, MA 01966

1. Backstop is live.

2. 1st base end of backstop, follow the fence to the opening before the dugout is live.  Opening in fence is out of play.

3. 1st base dugout opening is dead, then dugout fence is live, followed by another dugout opening which is dead, if ball goes through.

4. Fence from 1st base dugout down to the light pole is live.  Ball over fence is dead.

5. Then from light pole, line up to woods in foul territory.  Ball over the line is out of play.  Catch and carry is in effect – Unless player falls down out of play after making a catch in play, then runners on base will advance one base, if necessary.

6.  White line (edge of woods) in right will be end of field.  This line should extend the entire length of the outfield from right field pole out towards centerfield light pole. If no line, then we will use the “edge of woods” as the line.  Any ball landing or rolling into right field woods to the right of light pole in right center field is ruled a double.

7.  Any ball hitting the right center field light pole on the fly is ruled a home run.  Any ball landing in the woods to the left of the light pole in right center is ruled a home run.  If ball bounces or rolls into woods in this area, it will be ruled a double.

8. There is a light pole in center field.  Ball landing on the fly to the left or right of the center field light pole in the woods is a home run.  However, any ball to the left of the pole will be all you can get, unless it rolls into the woods, which it’s then ruled a double.
All you can get continues all way to the stone wall along the left field foul line, this includes the little league dugouts and beyond the left field foul pole.

9.  A ball that clears the little league fence in the air is a home run.

10. A ball that hits the left field foul pole in the air is ruled a home run.  A ball that hits the right field foul pole in the air is ruled a double

11. The stonewall along left field will be alive unless it becomes lodged or goes out of play over the wall

12. Scoreboard is no longer live, so any ball hitting it should be ruled dead.  Fence from scoreboard down to 3rd base dugout is live, unless ball goes over the fence or through an opening, then ball is dead.

13. 3rd base dugout fence is live until the opening between 3rd base end of backstop and dugout, which if a ball goes through, then it is dead.

- Backstop is tight all the way around

- Play the fence down the left field line

- If a ball is hit in the air to left field and lands on or beyond the sidewalk, it is a home run (Look

for the big bounce). Any ball that rolls onto the sidewalk will be an automatic double. The left

- Over the fence in left is a home run, play anything off of it.

- All you can get in center field and right field

- If the ball is hit into the bushes in right field against the fence, call it dead and automatic

- A ball hit into the trees in right field will be the umpires discretion whether or not it would have

cleared the fence or not. If it is ruled it would have cleared the fence, it will be called a homerun.

Otherwise, it is an automatic double.

George Lucy Diamond @ Proctor School -  Topsfield Tories
60 Main St.  Topsfield, MA 01983

• Backstop fence is mostly down. Dugout fences are down. If the ball rolls under the fence, go by the book rule.

• Use imaginary lines from ends of backstop to dugout fences. Balls are dead if the ball goes in between backstop and dugout fences.

• Use a straight imaginary line from the end of the 1st and ride the cement all the way to the end of the outfield. Use a straight imaginary line from the end of the 3rd mound is out of play. Pass the mound, use the woods line as out of play.

• Home runs are balls that go in the woods, or hit an overhanging branch on the fly in left field. Balls that hit the cement on the fly to the RIGHT of the maple tree in right center field is a home run. Play the same maple tree as a wall, no matter where the ball lands. Any ball hit to the LEFT of the maple tree is all you can get. Even if it rolls onto the pavement, the ball is still in play. Ground rule doubles are any ball that rolls into the woods in left, or rolls onto the pavement to the RIGHT of the maple tree. If the ball hits the maple tree and lands on the pavement to the RIGHT of the maple tree, it is also a ground rule double. If it hits the maple tree and lands to the LEFT of the maple tree, the ball is still in play.

• Catch and carry is in effect as long as the player catches the ball IN the field of play. A player CANNOT throw the ball from the cement in right field foul territory, but can throw from the cement beyond centerfield as that part is technically in play. If the player makes a catch in play and carries it out of play, the player MUST come back into the field of play before throwing the ball.

• If a player catches a ball ON the cement to the RIGHT of the maple tree, it is a home run. If the player catches the ball BEFORE the cement in right field, it is an out, regardless if the player then goes onto the cement. The player must return to the field of play before throwing the ball back towards the infield.

• Along the left field line, there is an overhanging tree that is partly in play. Play the branches as a wall. If the ball hits the tree in fair territory, it is a fair ball, no matter where it lands. If the ball hits in foul territory, it is a foul ball no matter where it lands. If a ball hits the tree and is caught by a player, it is NOT an out.

• Bases are NOT anchored in. They are thrown down. Go by first touch of the bags.

• Bats must be kept out of the field of play.
