M/E 6 - Topsfield 3 (Friday 6/15)

The Mariners came away with a 6-3 victory over the Topsfield Tories at Proctor Field on Friday night. Rookie Mike Cain pitched 6 strong innings for the Mariners to gain the victory. Cain gave up 4 hits, all in the 4th inning when the Tories scored their 3 runs; also allowing no walks while striking out 7. Mike Gibbon came in the 7th inning to get the save.

The Tories were led at the plate with hits by Wayne Mirabito, Matt Rogers, Dave Galugi, and a 2-run double by Matt Rayner. Mirabito took the loss on the hill for the Tories after pitching 5 innings and surrendering 5 runs. Mike McKenna pitched the final two innings and gave up one run.



Cain also helped himself at the plate with a 2-2 night and a sacrifice in the 9th spot of the order. Joe Orlando (2-4, 2r,2b,3b,bb), Bryan Lafata (3-3,2r,2rbi,3b,bb), and Nate Bertolino (1-2, 2rbi) led the Mariners at the plate on Friday.



The Mariners improve to 4-3 and play Rowley in Essex on Tues 6/19 & at Eiras Park in Rowley on Wed 6/20. Topsfield (0-6) travels to Patton Park to play the H-W Generals on Thur 6/21, and then again on Friday (6/22) night against the Generals at Proctor Field.
