ITL Loses Hall of Famer

Ipswich Chief ITL Hall of Famer John Mansfield passed away November 19th.

Mr. John G. Mansfield, 64, formerly of Ipswich, beloved husband of Mary "Posie" H. (Means) Mansfield, died unexpectedly, Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Born and raised in Ipswich, he was the son of the late Richard and Lillian (Deschene) Mansfield. He received his education in the Ipswich school system, graduated from Ipswich High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Northeastern University in Boston.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States Marine Corp.

Mr. Mansfield had been employed for over ten years as a transportation manager for the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center. Prior to that he worked for the Department of Public Health as a manager for the Ambulance Regulatory Program.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. He was an avid fisherman who loved spending time outdoors and with his children and grandchildren, especially at their home in Vermont.

In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage, he is survived by two daughters, Mary "Aimee" Mansfield of North Andover and Alison M. Ness and her husband Christopher of North Andover; two sons, Erik G. Mansfield and his wife Theresa of Gloucester and John G. Mansfield and his wife Lisa of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Devon and Preston Mansfield, Ryan and Jason Ness and Jacob Mansfield; three sisters, Virginia Trampe of Quechee, Vt., Karen Mansfield of Plymouth, Vt., and Carol Grimes of Hamilton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

ARRANGEMENTS: John's visiting hours will be held at the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, (North Beverly location) Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a reception to follow. Relatives and friends invited to attend. His funeral service will be private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in John's memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Information, directions and condolences at
