Evelyn B. Sutera

It is with deep regret we annunce the passing of one of our biggest fans.

Evelyn B. Sutera -

Evelyn Bridget (McMillan) Sutera passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2017, after a courageous battle against ALS. Her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, Stephen Sutera, along with her sons, daughter, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, and grandchildren, spent the final years of her life taking care of Evelyn as her health deteriorated, never leaving her side. Affectionately calling themselves, "Team Buttercup," the family rallied around Evelyn and Steve, constantly filling their home with laughter and love and taking Evelyn on many a weekend "field trip" around town. And even though Evelyn couldn’t communicate back to her family, it was very clear that seeing her family so united made her incredibly happy and proud. In their many years together, Evelyn and Steve loved to travel, spending many an airplane trip to Las Vegas or road trip to Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun and Twin Rivers Casino. Both also loved playing cribbage and any and all card games, with bingo being a favorite of Evelyn’s. But by far, their favorite activity of all, was spent with their children and grandchildren. They both loved attending whatever sporting event or school play they participated in, and without a doubt, Evelyn was the loudest cheerleader in the crowds. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Stephen Sutera; her children, Stephen Sutera and his fiance, Donna Curran, Lisa Sutera Lucido and her husband, Chris Lucido, Michael Sutera and his wife, Sagan Suter, and Scott Sutera and his wife, Jessica Sutera. She also leaves behind her many grandchildren, Nicole Lucido Pizzimenti and her husband, Nick Pizzimenti, Kyle Lucido and his longtime girlfriend, Erin Jermyn, Alex Lucido, Caitlyn Lucido, Shelby Sutera, Ellie Sutera and Christian Curran. She also leaves behind her siblings, John McMillan, Jean Mattuchio and her husband, Louis, Thomas McMillan and his wife, Louise, Leo McMillan and his wife, Kathy, along with many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life is being held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Visiting hours are from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish, in Gloucester, continuing on with her burial in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to VNA Hospice Care at http://vnacarenetwork.ejoinme.org or by mail at 199 Rosewood Drive, Suite 180, Danvers, MA 01923.
