Late Score Costs Topsfield Tories Against Ipswich Chiefs

Friday's game against Ipswich Chiefs was a heartbreaker for Topsfield Tories, as they lost the lead late in a 12-4 defeat. The game was tied at four with Ipswich Chiefs batting in the top of the fifth when Jeff Doucette singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. The Topsfield Tories struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Ipswich Chiefs, giving up 12 runs.

Topsfield Tories got things moving in the first inning, when an error scored two runs for Topsfield Tories.  Ipswich Chiefs evened things up at four in the top of the fourth inning when Jake Greaney lined out, driving in a run.

Ipswich Chiefs scored five runs in the sixth inning. Ipswich Chiefs's big inning was driven by singles by Corey Greaney and RJ Libby, an error on a ball put in play by Will Montgomery, and a double by Dave Moore. Greaney earned the victory on the mound for Ipswich Chiefs. He went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out five and walking one. Dan Leff threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Andrew Heath took the loss for Topsfield Tories. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing ten runs on 13 hits, striking out three and walking one. Tim Bransfield started the game for Topsfield Tories. He went one and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on one hit.  Jack Sorenson led Topsfield Tories with three hits in three at bats.

Ipswich Chiefs scattered 18 hits in the game. Doucette, Libby, Montgomery, Moore, Greg Doucette, and Greaney each had multiple hits for Ipswich Chiefs. Doucette went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Ipswich Chiefs in hits.
