Mariners 5 Tories 1

Manchester-Essex beat Topsfield last night 5 to 1 in Essex. The Mariners were led by Caulin Rogers (3-3, HR, 3B). Eight different Mariners had a hit as Rory Gentile (HR), Brett Cahill, Nate Bertolino, Mike Cain, Dom Cirone, Cory McCollum and Cory Burnham all hit safely. Ryan Marques (4IP, 6K, 0R) picked up the win, Gentile (2IP, 1K, 1R) and Adam Philpott (1IP, 2K, 0R) closed the game out.

The Mariners also benefited from some great defensive plays. In the third, Gentile made a circus catch in deep right center and then again in the 5th Cain made a marvelous diving catch in the right center gap to rob  Andy Heath of extra bases.

For Topsfield; Nahigian, Panunzio, Nolfi and Runge had hits. Panunzio (4IP, 5K, 3R) took the loss, Zach Lampkin (2IP, 2R) pitched in relief.

Manchester-Essex improves to 5-1, while Topsfield drops to 1-1-1. The two teams will meet again on Friday.
