The Beverly Giants beat the Topsfield Tories by a score of 12-10 on Wednesday night at Proctor Field. Beverly batted around in the first inning scoring 7 times on 6 hits. John Boyle (2 for 4,HR, 4RBI) and Bill Boccuzzi (1 for 2, 3BB, 2RBI) each had 2 run doubles in the inning while Joe Gill (2 for 3) also added a RBI double. Topsfield got two of those runs back on RBIs by McCarthy (2 for 4, 2B) and Evan Bunker, making it 7-2 after 1.
Boyle and Derek Scialdone (2 for 4, HR, 3RBI) hit back to back solo homers in the 3rd to extend Beverly’s lead to 9-2, but the Tories wouldn’t go away. They sent 8 men to the plate, scoring 4 times on 5 hits (4 for extra bases).
Rocky Pisa (2 for 3 at the plate, 2.1IP, Win) relieved his brother Gary after 1.2 innings and gave up three unearned runs in the 4th to tie the game at 9-9. Scialdone singled with the bases loaded in the top of the 5th giving Beverly an 11-9 lead. Boyle’s sac fly added an insurance run for Beverly making it 12-9.
Topsfield brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 6th and Lampkin hit a scorching line drive to 3rd to end the game. Tom Carr picked up the save for Beverly going the final two innings.
