The Ipswich Chiefs continued their second half surge towards the playoffs with a 9-3 victory in their 1st meeting this year with the Rowley Rams.
Kevin Michael pitched a complete game for the victory while Joe Katin was hit hard all night and suffered the loss. Ipswich got a tape measure 3 run HR from Travis Doty to open the scoring in the 1st and added 2 more in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Rowley scored 2 runs in the top of the 4th inning with some timely 2 out hitting but Ipswich responded with 4 in the bottom half to take a 9-2 lead. Rowley added a run in the 6th to round out the scoring.
Ricky Sotiropolous (2-4) and Matt Lane (2-3) lead Ipswich while Koby Thibault reached base 3 times (1-2) for the Rams. Dave Leavitt pitched a scoreless seventh inning for Rowley.
Both teams meet again on Wednesday at Eiras Field (5:45).
