Another great game was played between the Ipswich Chiefs and the Rowley Rams at Linebrook Reservation.
Tonight saw the oldest pitcher catcher combination in Chiefs history. Kevin Smolla and Mike Blaise combined for 86 years! Smolla had some issues but was able get back to the young buck he once was. Smolla was able to complete 4 innings, scattering 11 hits, 7 runs, 2 walks, and struck out 4. Dave Doucette threw the final 3 frames and kept the Rams hitless, while walking 1.
The Chiefs offense was led by Anthony Hernandez who was 2 for 4 at the plate and driving in 3 Chiefs. Andy Knox also added a 3 for 4 night and drove in a run. Ryan Montecalvo, Dylan During, and David Shoreman all added RBI's. Shoreman was also hit twice this evening. There was also a Chiefs first tonight, during the 3rd inning Montecalvo was stung by a bee during his at bat. Only in Ipswich folks.
Tomasz, Thibault, and McDonald all chipped in with two hits a piece for the visiting Rams. Thibault also provided 3 RBI's.
