Townies Over Generals, 9-6

Brent Currier blasted two HR's and contributed 5 RBI to lead the Townies to victory at Patton Park. Both Emersons pitched well for the visitors earning the win. The Generals fought back until the end but came up short this time, Jeff Jensen is charged with his first loss of the season.

Brent Currier started the scoring with a solo HR in the first. The Townies extended the lead with a 6 run third. Osmond got an RBI single that was followed by a Currier 3-Run HR. Robertson and Folger also delivered RBI hits.

The Generals got on the board in the bottom of the third thanks to a Mark Provost solo HR. The Townies answered with 2 more in the top of the fourth. Sharon & Currier both with a RBI singles putting the Townies lead at 9-1. As the game started to wind down, that's when things began to get interesting. Tim O'Leary got a 2-run HR in the sixth to cut the lead to 9-3. In the seventh Maloney led off with a single and was moved to second on a Vitale HBP. Ruggiero then got an RBI single to make the score 9-4. Tim O'Leary was next up and delivered again, this time with a 3-run HR cutting the score to 9-7 with only one out.

Upon crossing the plate the umpire made O'Leary run the bases again causing much confusion. The umpires then met and discussed the play. When play resumed the Townies appealed to first base, at this point the batter was called out for missing a base the first time around. This play was unprecedented and very controversial at the time. When everything settled down the play stood as scoring two runs with the batter being called out. This made the score 9-6, now with 2 outs in the inning. The Townies were able to record the final out and end the game in victory, foiling a Generals comeback.
