Generals Edge Chiefs, 4-3

Generals 4 Chiefs 3
The Hamilton Generals edged the Ipswich Chiefs by a score of 4-3 on a 95 degree Monday evening in Ipswich. Due to a plethora of injuries and absences on the Generals' pitching staff, Jim Love (4IP, 4H, 2R, 0ER, 0BB, 4K) was forced to tough out a spot start while picking up the win. Connor Sullivan (3IP, 2H, 1ER, 0BB, 4K) pitched the final three frames for the save. Kevin Michael (7IP, 7H, 4R, 3ER, 1BB, 9K) pitched well for the Chiefs but was tagged with the loss.

Jim Maloney broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third with a two-out two-run HR off the snack shack of the little league field for Hamilton. Ipswich would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning by plating two unearned runs on an infield error that Hamilton committed with two outs.

The Generals responded with two runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Justin Tilley was robbed of extra bases by the Ipswich left-fielder, but settled for a sacrifice fly to give the Generals the lead back. Hamilton tacked on an unearned run later in the inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Michael helped his own cause by wrapping a HR around the foul-pole in right to cut Hamilton's lead to 4-3. However, Ipswich would not threaten again as Sullivan mowed down the final seven hitters he faced.

In addition to picking up the win, Love contributed two hits and two stolen bases. Reginald J. Maidment (2-for-2, HBP, 2R, 2SB) had a productive night out of the nine-spot for Hamilton. Cadogen had two hits for Ipswich from atop the order. The teams meet once more this week, on Thursday, in Hamilton.

LATE BREAKING NEWS:
Due to a scheduling conflict and mix-up at the Rec. Dept. Wednesday's makeup game between Ipswich and Hamilton will have to be moved once again.
