The Beverly Giants went to Evans Field for a "home game" on Thursday night and beat the Townies by a score of 4-3.
Beverly took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st on a Nick Adams (2 for 3, RBI, SB) RBI single. The score stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the 3rd when Kevin Harutunian led off with a single, stole 2nd, advanced to 3rd on a Nick Adams single, and scored on a RBI groundout by Mike Freni, giving the Giants a 2-0 lead after 3 innings.
The Townies got an unearned run in the 4th as Beverly made two errors to cut the lead to 2-1. With two outs and the bases loaded Beverly starter Luke Deschamps got a groundout to get out of the jam. The Giants got an unearned run of their own on an RBI single by Andy Hobin to make it a 3-1 game after 4 innings.
Rockport quickly got the run back in the top of the 5th. Anderson reached on an error, went to 2nd on a passed ball, stole third, and scored on an RBI groundout by Tommy Robertson to cut the Beverly lead to 3-2.
Beverly got an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th. Derek Scialdone and Rob Freni had back to back singles to start the inning and Jay Trowt scored Scialdone to give Beverly a 4-2 lead.
Deschamps took the ball to start the 7th, but after a baserunner was pulled for John Boyle, who wrapped three strikeouts around a Robertson RBI single to pick up the save as Beverly hung on 4-3. Deschamps picked up the victory going 6 innings, giving up 2 hits, 3 runs (0 earned), no walks and 6 Ks.
