The Townies edged out the Rams in a pitcher's duel by a score of 2-1. Brent Currier and Joe Katin went six scoreless innings until the seventh and final inning.
In the top half of the inning, Rowley scratched a run across the board on a Liquori single, but wasted a chance to continue the inning when Currier picked off the runner from second base. In the home half of the inning, Andrew Vasallo started off the inning with an infield single, then moved over to second on a Mike Bertolino sac bunt. Tom Robertson followed with a liner that the first baseman could not handle and Vasallo scored to tie it 1-1. Up next was Currier, but before he could even swing the bat, an errant pickoff throw to first allowed Robertson to advance to third, putting the winning run only 90 feet away. Currier and Chris Bouchie were intentionally walked to set up the force, but it wasn't meant to be for the Rams. Brock Currier smoked a single passed the diving third baseman and Robertson scored to give Rockport its second victory on the young season.
Currier went the distance for the allowing only three hits with 7 K's and 2 BB's. Katin went 6 1/3 innings, scattering eight hits with 4 K's and 3 BB's.
Offensively for Rockport, James Randall went 2 for 3, while Robertson, Bouchie, Brock Currier, Vasallo, Dan Greel and Matt Ayer all contributed one hit a piece. Thibeault, Renzuli and Liquori had the hits for Rowley.
Rockport travels to Rowley for a rematch on Wednesday.
