The Townies defeated the Chiefs 7-5 on Monday night in Ipswich.
Rockport was led offensively by Brent Currier (1for3, hr, 2rbis, rs), Mike Anderson (2for5, 2rs, rbi, sb), Brock Currier (2for4, 2b, 2rbis, rs), Chris Bouchie (2for4, 2b, rs) and Jeremy Spittle (1for2, 2rbis).
Greg Kistner got the start for the Townies, his first in four years. He got chased out of the game in third, going 2 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and five runs. Andrew Vasallo came on to pitch 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the victory. He struck out one, allowing two hits, while picking a runner off first in the 4th and inducing the Chiefs into two 5-4-3 double plays in the 5th and 6th innings collectively.
Ipswich was paced offensively by Peter Sotoripoulos (3for4, 2b, 2rs), Ryan Montecalvo (2for3, rs), Tommy Radzim (2b, 2rbis) and Kevin Michael (h, rbis). Greg Doucette took the loss for the Chiefs.
The Townies improve to 5-4, climbing over .500 for the first time this season. The Chiefs fall to 1-6. Townies return to action Sunday against Hamilton in Rockport, while the Chiefs takes on Beverly in Ipswich on Friday night.
