The Beverly Giants defeat the Manchester/Essex Mariners after late game error, 7-3
The Beverly Giants outlasted the Manchester/Essex Mariners on Sunday after seven lead changes, squeaking out a 7-3 win at Cooney Field.
The Giants took the lead in the sixth inning and held on for the victory. An error scored Scott Caradonna and gave the Beverly Giants the lead for good.
John Boyle racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Beverly Giants. He singled in the first inning and homered in the fifth inning.
Andy Brown got the win for the Beverly Giants. He allowed three runs over seven innings. He struck out two, walked five and surrendered five hits.
Max Nesbit couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Mariners, taking a loss. He pitched the last two innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed four unearned runs.
The Mariners jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third. A single by Caulin Rogers, bringing home Ian Buckley started the inning off.
After a quick strike from the Mariners, the Giants responded with one run in the third. The Beverly Giants scored on an RBI single by Conor Walsh.
The Mariners matched their one-run fourth inning with one more in the sixth. In the fourth, the Manchester/Essex Mariners scored on an RBI double by Nesbit, scoring Rory Gentile.
It didn't take long for the Beverly Giants to answer as they scored one run of their own in the fourth. The Beverly Giants scored on a groundout by Brown.
