Alex Webb leads the Rockport Townies to 5-1 victory
Alex Webb was strong at the plate and on the mound in carrying Rockport to a 5-1 victory over the Beverly Giants on Friday at Evans Field. Webb had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the third and fifth innings.
The Giants couldn't get anything going as long as Webb was pitching. The Giants managed just two hits off of the Townies' pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked three and struck out five during his seven innings of work.
The Giants had the lead early, but couldn't hold off the Townies. The Giants were up until the fourth inning, but Rockport had other plans for the final outcome, taking the lead back on a two-run single by Kyle Nelson.
Josh Levesque was charged with the loss. He lasted just five innings, walked four, struck out eight, and allowed five runs.
The Giants' lone run of the ballgame came in the third inning on an RBI double by Conor Walsh.
The game was never in doubt after the fourth, as Rockport scored three runs on a two-run single by Nelson.
Rockport increased its lead with two runs in the fifth. Marcus Cottone kicked things off with a single, scoring Webb.
