Beverly Giants fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 10-6 loss to Rockport Townies on Wednesday. Rockport Townies scored on a single by Kyle Nelson, a wild pitch by Marcus Cottone, a triple by Mike Emerson, and a wild pitch during Jay Fulmer's at bat in the second inning.
Despite the loss, Beverly Giants did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Rockport Townies had nine hits on the way to victory.
Rockport Townies fired up the offense in the second inning. Nelson drove in one when he singled.
Beverly Giants put up three runs in the fifth inning. Gavin Sparkman and Josh Levesque all drove in runs in the frame.
Ryan Webb was credited with the victory for Rockport Townies. He allowed six hits and four runs over five innings, striking out three. Cory Emerson and Dylan Maki entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Maki recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Rockport Townies.
Rocky Pisa Jr. took the loss for Beverly Giants. He lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out six and walking zero.
Beverly Giants racked up eight hits in the game. Luke McDonald, Sparkman, and Brian Chirco each managed multiple hits for Beverly Giants. McDonald went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Beverly Giants in hits.
Rockport Townies collected nine hits. Alex Webb and Keady Segel each collected multiple hits for Rockport Townies.
