On Sunday night at Memorial Park in Essex, the Manchester-Essex Mariners defeated the Beverly Giants 15-1 in 5 innings; in a matchup of the lone undefeated teams in the ITL. The win puts the Mariners at 3-0, while the Giants remain at the top of the standings with a 2-1 record.
After 2 innings Mariners first baseman, Mike Cain was 2-2 with 2 grand slams. In the 1st inning, hitting cleanup, he drove one into the marsh in left-center field, and in the 2nd inning he took the pitch deep over the right field fence. On the day Cain finished 2-3 with a hbp, 2 runs scored and 9 rbi's. Centerfielder, Rory Gentile, paced the Mariners with a 3-3 day including a 2 run homer, 2 runs scored and a walk.
Mike Gibbon picked up his 2nd win on the season, going 4 innings and giving up 0 runs on 1 hit, while striking out 6.
Brian Chirco and Chris Freni had the 2 hits for Giants and Kevin Hartunian walked twice. Chirco scored the run for the Giants, and Hartunian had the rbi. Rocky Pisa, Kyle Sewyck, and Kelleher shared the pitching duties on the mound for the Giants.
