Ipswich 11 - Rowley 11

Ipswich and Rowley battled the heat on Monday night but were left with a tie after both offenses erupted for 11 runs each. Rowley jumped out to an early lead on scoring 3 runs in the 2nd, 3rd and fourth innings. Ralph Renzulli paced the Rams offense with 4 hits including a 2 run triple in the 4th. The Rams offense was very balanced as a 7 of the starters had at least one hit, while Conte, Bolla, Esposito, and Vigiotti all chipped in with two hits each.

However, after the Rams scored their last two runs in the 5th, the Chiefs offense came alive. Rowley's starter, Martin, had kept the Chiefs quiet through 5, allowing only 3 runs and scattering 4 hits . Things finally got going in the 6th for the Chiefs when they sent eight men to the plate, scoring 5, highlighted by a based loaded single by Montecalvo and a 3-run Homer by Dave Shoreman.

Chris Lane then came in to pitch a 1-2-3 seventh to give the Chiefs one more chance. Ipswich was then able to get the first three men on with a walk, error, and HBP. After Rowley's closer was able to get the next two batters on a Fielders choice and a K, the Chiefs were left with men on 2nd and 3rd with 2 out and still down by two. Montecalvo then drove a double to left center scoring two to tie the game. Rowley intentionally walked Shoreman and were finally able to retire the side leaving the two teams with a hard fought draw.

The Chiefs also had some help from Travis Doty who blasted his 1st HR of the year in the fourth and Andy knox was a solid lead off for the Chiefs getting on base 3 out 5 times. The Rams offense seemed to like the heat as they finished the game with 15 hits including 4 doubles and a triple. The two teams will go at it again on Wednesday in Rowley.
