The Hamilton Generals defeated the Topsfield Tories last night on the arm of veteran Judd Funchion. Funchion pitched a complete game allowing only one run and scattering 8 hits. The only blemish was a Hittenger solo HR in the 4th inning. The Generals put up five runs but really put the pressure on the home team most of the night as they seemed to be threatening a big rally in most innings. Lampkin pitched great for the Tories and really worked out of some tough jams, helping himself out with a few great defensive plays on the mound. Ultimately he was charged with the loss in the Generals 5-1 win.
Offensively the Generals were led by Bryan Vitale (2-4, HR, 4 RBI) who delivered a 3-run HR in the third and a RBI single in the fourth. Rookie Jim Love also had a great game at the plate recording 2 hits and a RBI, while Mark Ruggiero was 3-4 with 2 doubles. Lampkin had 3 hits, Hatfield two, and Hittenger recorded the HR to pace the Tories offense. The win moves the Generals to 5-4 on the season, the Tories fall to 1-7-1.
